Geneva (VNA) – The Vietnamese delegation has actively contributedideas to various draft resolutions and co-sponsored six resolutions of the 37thsession of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which wrapped up inGeneva, Switzerland, on March 23 after one month of working.

AmbassadorDuong Chi Dung, head of the Vietnamese permanent mission to the United Nations,the WTO and other international organisations, joined discussion on a number ofissues and delivered presentations at several events, including a high-levelpanel discussion marking the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration ofHuman Rights and the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme ofAction, a discussion on human rights situation in Myanmar, and another on therights of people with disabilities.

Onbehalf of ASEAN, he also delivered a speech at a debate on the UniversalPeriodic Review, affirming that this is an important mechanism that helps boostinternational dialogue and cooperation in human rights issue.

ASEANis willing to cooperate with partners for the success of the mechanism, heconfirmed.

Onthe sidelines of the session, Vietnam joined with India, Japan, France, the Philippines,Bangladesh, the Maldives, and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)to hold a seminar on the role of information and communication technology inpromoting economic, cultural and social rights, and reducing inequality.

Vietnam’sparticipation in the 37th session again showed its positive and responsibleperformance in common works of the UNHRC in the spirit of dialogue andcooperation, thus contributing to ensuring activities of the council inaccordance with the basic principles of the UN Charter and international law.

Duringthe month-long event, the council discussed issues related to the rights ofchildren, people with disabilities, anti-racial discrimination.

Italso took a look at the human rights situation in Myanmar, the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea, Syria, South Sudan, and Iran, as well as discussingmeasures to intensify technical assistance to ensure and promote human rightsin Libya.

Among41 resolutions submitted at the session, 26 were passed, including the one onthe right to privacy in the digital era, and another on the role of goodgovernance in protecting and promoting human rights.-VNA
