Vietnam attends 35th meeting of UN Human Rights Council

Geneva (VNA) – AmbassadorDuong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam’s permanent delegation to the United Nations,the World Trade Organisation and other international organizations in Geneva,is attending the UN Human Rights Council’s 35th session that openedon June 6 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The session, which will run untilJune 23, includes a dialogue with representatives from the independentinternational investigation committee on Syria, as well as discussions on reportsof special rapporteurs on human rights situation in Belarus, Eritrea, Burundiand Myanmar.
Participants update information onhuman rights in Congo, Ukraine, Ivory Coast, Palestine and occupied Arabicterritories, and discuss the supervision of the implementation of resolutionsrelated to cooperation with Georgia in human rights.
The session’s agenda will alsoinclude discussions on women’s rights, the eradication of discrimination and violenceagainst women, the engagement of men and boys in preventing violence againstwomen and girls, along with the implementation of the Agenda 2030 onSustainable Development related to health and gender equality.
Participants will also talkmeasures to enhance the capacity in public health, children’s rights and issuesrelated to rights to education, poverty and human trafficking.
Attending the session as anobserver, Vietnam will continue actively contributing to the council’s work,especially the core groups on building resolutions on human rights and climatechange which are scheduled to be passed at the end of the session.
Vietnam will also give ideas on anumber of main issues at the event and engage in negotiations on the building ofother resolutions of the council.
At the same time, Vietnam will organisea conference on the sidelines of the session on the promotion and protection ofthe rights of women in coastal areas amidst climate change.-VNA
Vietnam has been contributing to protecting and advancing the value of human rights in a direct, responsible and constructive manner during its membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Vietnam has called for dialogue and reconciliation to ensure security and human rights in Burundi in the wake of mounting violence in the African nation.
Dialogue and cooperation are the most effective ways to address human rights issues, said Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc at the 31st regular session of the UN Human Rights Council on March 1.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is committed to continue to make contributions to the UN Human Rights Council, said the ASEAN Coordinator.
Vietnam made active contributions to the 33rd session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, which wrapped up on September 30 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.

Deputy PM Le Thanh Long proposed countries promote shared values, including building trust, sincerity, and solidarity among nations and peoples; fostering cooperation spirit and responsible behaviour as well as upholding international law and the UN Charter; and placing people at the centre and as the goal, the key player, and the driving force of all policies.
The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
