Vietnam attends G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Japan

Tokyo (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Bui Thanh Son, is attending the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Nagoya city in Aichi prefecture ofJapan.
The meeting, held on November22 and 23, gathered top diplomats from the Group of Twenty(G20)’s nations, as well as invited countries that include India, Spain, Chile,Egypt, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Senegal, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
Themeeting’s three plenary sessions focused onthe promotion of free trade and global governance, implementation of theSustainable Development Goals (SDGs)and Africa's development.
Based on the outcomes of the Osaka Summit, the ministers are discussingissues such as further facilitating trade and investment, addressing newchallenges arising from digitalization while maximizing its benefits andminimizing its side-effects, and improving functions of the existingmultilateral frameworks, including the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
At the G20 OsakaSummit in June, the leadersaffirmed the necessity of maintaining the multilateral free trading system andthe reform of the WTO since international trade and investment remainthe key engine of economic growth.
Regarding Africa’s development, the ministers are scheduled to discuss issues such as ensuringsustainable economic growth of Africa, assisting African-led progress on peaceand security, and addressing the root causes of the outstanding challenges inAfrica.
The G20 ForeignMinisters’ Meeting in Nagoya will be the last of the relevant ministerialmeetings under Japan’s presidency. The presidency will be handed over to SaudiArabia after the meeting./.
