Vietnam attends ITU plenipotentiary conference

Speaking at the opening session onOctober 20, Thang reported on the rapid development of Vietnam’stelecommunications sector, which is reflected in the application of newtechnologies and the improved legal framework.

He also reiterated the country’s dedication to continue contributing to ITU operations in the future.

On October 19, Thang took part in the ITU Ministerial Meeting onInformation and Communications Technology (ICT), during whichparticipants adopted the Busan Declaration.

Thedeclaration showed ITU member countries’ consensus on the future role ofICT in sustainable development. They pledged to share experience andintensify cooperation in an effort to utilise information technology tomeet the demands of the world’s population.

TheITU comprises 193 member states, including Vietnam. A plenary sessionis held every four years to review the implementation of the action planfor the previous term and devise policies and strategies for the nextterm.

This year’s plenary session takes place from October 20 to November 7.-VNA

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
