Vietnam attends UN Human Rights Council’s 45th regular session
A Vietnamese delegation, led by Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai - Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, is attending the UN Human Rights Council’s 45th Regular Session (HRC45).

Geneva (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation, led by Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai -Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, the World Trade Organisation(WTO) and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, isattending the UN Human Rights Council’s 45th Regular Session (HRC45).
The event, opened on September 14, brings together representatives from UNHRC’s47 member countries and over 100 observation countries, international, intergovernmentaland non-governmental organisations.
In her speech at the enhanced interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rightson the human rights impact of the COVID-19 pandemic within the framework of thesession, the Vietnamese diplomat reaffirmed Vietnam'scommitment to protecting and promoting human rights amid the pandemic, supportinginternational cooperation and multilateral approach to effectively respond tothe pandemic and promote post-COVID-19 recovery.
She emphasised that Vietnam's anti-pandemic measures carried out in a balanced,effective and low-cost way have brought about important results, contributingto controlling the disease and ensuring economic recovery and development.
Vietnam attaches great importance to socio-economic stability policies andmeasures to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on livelihoods of Vietnamesepeople, especially vulnerable groups, towards ensuring that no one is leftbehind, she said.
Ambassador Mai also highlighted Vietnam's activities as the ASEAN Chair in 2020to promote intra-bloc cooperation and coordination between the bloc with itspartners in response to the pandemic, and the country’s involvement inactivities and initiatives at the World Health Organisation and relevantinternational organisations.
The HRC45, which lasts until October 6, is expected to have 36 sessions on numerous human rights-related issues such ascooperation with the UN, representatives and UN mechanisms in the field ofhuman rights.
The Session is scheduled to approve reports of The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) working groups of 12 countries, and adopt 24 Resolutions./.
Vietnam accepts 241, or nearly 83 percent, of 291 recommendations made by UN member countries within the framework of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, said Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has adopted 26 resolutions, including a resolution on climate change and human rights co-authored by Vietnam, the Philippines and Bangladesh, during its 41st session in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the WTO and other international organisations, is leading a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the impact of climate change on human rights, which opened in Geneva on September 9.
