New Delhi (VNA)– Vietnamese students have brought home a silver and four consolidation prizesat the 10th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in Bhubaneswar city in India’sOdisha State.

The five students, all from the Hanoi-Amsterdam high schoolin Hanoi, tookpart in the world’s largest contest in astronomy and astrophysics for highschool students for the first time, together with more than 50 teams from allover the world.

Vietnamis home to a number of world-renowned astronomic scientists, including TranThanh Van and Trinh Xuan Thuan, but astronomy is still new in the country. Thescience has been taught in some universities.

The Vietnamese students’ strong performance at the event isexpected to encourage the study of astronomy among students nationwide.-VNA
