Vietnam boosts cooperation with Japanese prefectures

Tokyo (VNA) – VietnameseAmbassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong has visited Kagawa and Tokushimaprefectures in Shikoku region to beef up relations between Vietnam and these localities.

During his time in Kagawa, Cuong met with GovernorHamada Keizo, Assembly Chairperson Kuroshima Akira and his deputy TakataYoshinori who all said they attach importance to developing partnership withVietnamese localities.

The Kagawa leaders said they expect towelcome more Vietnamese coming to their prefecture for study and work.

Cuong pledged to support joint projectsbetween Kagawa and Vietnamese localities in trade-finance, education and humanresources.

Kagawa and the northern province ofHai Phong began cooperation in 2005. Governor Hamada Keizo made a visit to HoChi Minh City last year to seek partnerships and promote local potential.

In Tokushima, the diplomat met with GovernorIzumiKamon to discuss collaboration opportunities in agriculture,tourism and human resources development.

He talked about Vietnam-Japan relations andsocio-economic affairs in Vietnam with some local businesses, economicinstitutions and banks.

Cuongalso visited the Otsuka PharmaceuticalCo., Ltd, the third biggest pharmaceutical group in Japan. Otsukaunveiled aplan to open its second plant in Vietnam.

Kagawa is the central hub of Shikoku regionwith a population of 970,000 and annual GDP of 3.914 trillion JPY (35.4 billionUSD).

Meanwhile, Tokushimais home to about755,000 people, with annual GDP reaching some 3.12 trillion JPY (28.2 billionUSD). The prefecture is famous for agricultural produce and the Awa DanceFestival.-VNA
