Vietnam, Botswana celebrate 10-year diplomatic relations

Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on August 26 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Botswana diplomatic relations.

Addressingthe event, Deputy Foreign Minister Tran Quoc Cuong said Vietnam and Africa haveshared cooperative relations on a foundation of solidarity and mutual supportduring their national independence struggles in the past as well as presentnational development.

Vietnamhas always worked to develop all-round partnership with African countries,including Botswana, the official stated.

Hesaid Vietnam is delighted at achievements the Government and people of Botswanahave gained over the years, with high growth making Botswana one of thecountries with the most developed economies in Africa.

Cuong saidVietnam highly values Botswana’s connecting role in the Southern AfricanDevelopment Community.

Henoted that over the past decade, although the two sides have enjoyed remarkableattainments in many cooperation areas, results have yet to match their greatpotential.

TheDeputy FM expressed his belief that after the visit by Botswana’s Minister ofForeign Affairs and International Cooperation Unity Dow, more effectivecooperation programmes will be implemented.

Withits experience in national construction and development as well as incooperation with African countries in various fields, Vietnam is willing to workwith the government and people of Botswana towards the country’s target ofbecoming a developed country.

Cuongsaid he hopes that in the future, Vietnam and Botswana will bolster theircooperation, meeting the aspirations and interests of both peoples.

Forher part, the Botswana minister said her first visit to Vietnam is being madeas the two sides are celebrating the 10th anniversary of bilateraldiplomatic relations, and expressed her impression on Vietnam’s growth.

Notingthat the Vietnam-Botswana partnership is expanding in various areas, theofficial said Botswana wishes to learn from Vietnam’s experience insocio-economic development.

Shealso expected that the relationship between Vietnam and African countries,including Botswana, will continue to grow, contributingto global peace and prosperity.-VNA
