Vietnam, Cambodia share experience in religious affairs
The Vietnamese Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion opened a four-day meeting in Vietnam’s An Giang province on January 7 to share experience in the fields under their remit.

An Giang (VNA) – The Vietnamese Government’sCommittee for Religious Affairs and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults andReligion opened a four-day meeting in Vietnam’s An Giang province on January 7to share experience in the fields under their remit.
According to the Vietnamese committee, amidstthe two countries’ growing friendship and comprehensive cooperation, relationsbetween the agencies on religious affairs have continually been enhanced andresulted in positive outcomes.
The two sides signed a memorandum ofunderstanding on cooperation in religious affairs in 2007 and an agreement onthe issue in 2015.
Implementing the 2015 agreement, Vietnam andCambodia have sent six high-ranking delegations to visit each other andorganised three conferences in Vietnam to share experience in the field.Notably, they successfully held a meeting of the countries’ border provincesand created conditions for Vietnamese and Cambodian Buddhists to boostconnections.
Vu Chien Thang, Chairman of the VietnameseGovernment’s Committee for Religious Affairs, said in the time ahead, theVietnamese side will exert every effort to carry out the cooperation deal withthe Cambodian ministry and improve their ties in religious affairs, therebyhelping to foster the traditional friendship and all-round collaborationbetween the two nations.
At the meeting, Min Chandyneth, Deputy Secretaryof State at the Cambodian ministry, said the cooperation documents in 2007 and2015 aim to support the state management in the field of religion, thus helpingto consolidate the countries’ friendship and cooperation for the sake of thetwo peoples, as well as for stability in the region and the world.
She noted the experience sharing conference inAn Giang, the fourth since 2016, is another demonstration of the increasinglyreinforced cooperation between the two peoples./.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh is making a working visit to Cambodia on December 12-13 at the invitation of Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection Men Sam An.
Hundreds of soldiers from the Royal Cambodian Army and the Vietnam People’s Army on December 18 took part in a rescue drill in Chantrea district in the Cambodian province of Svay Rieng that borders Vietnam’s southern Long An province.
Vietnamese Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The and Cambodian Minister for Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol made a fact-finding trip to Moc Bai – Bavet border gate to seek ways to reduce congestion in customs clearance of goods and passengers there.
A Vietnam – Cambodia model border market was inaugurated and handed over to Cambodian authorities in Memot district of Tboung Khmum province on December 24.
The Vietnam – Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) convened a meeting in Hanoi on December 26 to review the association’s performance in 2019 and plans for 2020.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
