Vietnam chairs online meeting of IPU’s ASEAN+3 group

A delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly participated in meetings of the ASEAN+3 and Asia-Pacific groups of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) which were held in the form of video conference on November 23.

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of the Vietnamese National Assemblyparticipated in meetings of the ASEAN+3 and Asia-Pacific groups of theInter-parliamentary Union (IPU) which were held in the form of video conferenceon November 23.

Themeetings were held to make preparations for the 143rd GeneralAssembly of the IPU (IPU-143) slated for Spain from November 26-30.

The meeting of the ASEAN 3 Group was chaired by Chairman ofthe Vietnamese NA’s Committee for External Affairs Vu Hai Ha, who noted thatmany on-site activities of the group had been cancelled and shifted to virtualform during the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, with resolve and political will, theASEAN 3 Group continued to maintain dialogue to contribute to the IPU’s commongoals and multilateral parliamentary diplomacy, he said.  

The group approved the minutes of its virtual meeting onApril this year in the framework of the 142nd IPU General Assembly.It also elected the Cambodian parliament to chair the group’s meeting in theframework of the 144th IPU General Assembly scheduled for March2022.  

At the meeting of the Asia-Pacific geopoliticalgroup (APG) under the chair of the Republic of Korea, the Vietnamese delegationpresented a report on the meeting of the ASEAN+3 Group.

The APG adopted the minutes of its previousmeeting held online on May 7 this year in the framework of IPU-142 anddiscussed the group’s vacant seats in the IPU’s mechanisms at the upcomingIPU-143.

The group agreed to nominate a representative of the Mongolian parliament tojoin the leadership of female parliamentarians at IPU-143./.
