Vietnam comes fourth at ASEAN Para Games

Singapore (VNA)🌳 – Vietnam ranked fourth at the eighth ASEAN Para Games in Singapore after all competitions concluded on December 9 noon.

The last gold medal for the country was earned by Vo Van Tung in the men’s F33/34 shot put event, contributing to the country’s total tally of 48 gold, 58 silver and 50 bronze medals.
Vietnam was behind Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia in the medal standings while host Singapore earned the fifth place with 24 golds. Vu The Phiet, head of the Vietnamese delegation to the Games, said Vietnamese athletes competed successfully at this year’s event. Notably, they won 19 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze medals in swimming. Ten out of the 11 participating Vietnamese lifters pocketed medals, including 6 golds.
Vietnamese athletes broke 16 Games records and two Asian records at the six-day biennial Para Games this year. He said such results illustrated the development of para-sports in Vietnam, fanning the hope for more tickets to the Rio 2016 Paralympics in Brazil, especially in sports in the country’s advantages like swimming and athletics. The closing ceremony of the eighth ASEAN Para Games is scheduled to take place at the Marina Bay Sands area in the evening of December 9.-VNA
