Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held phonetalks with Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs BrunoRodriguez Parrilla on May 8 to discuss cooperation between Vietnam and Cubaamid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Minh conveyed the greetings of Vietnamese Party, State, and Governmentleaders to their Cuban counterparts and affirmed that Vietnam always standsside-by-side with Cuba.
The Cuban FM emphasised the importance Cuba attaches to the special,time-honoured relationship with Vietnam and highly valued Vietnam’s efforts in fightingthe pandemic and maintaining economic growth.
The two sides spoke highly of solidarity and support between the twocountries in fighting the disease and exchanged experience in this regard aswell as orientations and policies on economic recovery and social welfare post-COVID-19.
They also expressed their resolve to tighten the bilateral relationship andeffectively and comprehensively implement the agenda on bilateral cooperationin 2020 and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomaticties.
They agreed to further collaboration, coordination, and mutual supportat multilateral forums, especially during the period when Vietnam serves as ASEANChair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for2020-2021./.
A new trade agreement between Vietnam and Cuba officially came into force earlier this month, and is expected to help bring bilateral economic, trade and investment ties on par with their sound political relationship.
