Vietnam earns bronze at Asian air pistol champs

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese trio - Tran Quoc Cuong, Hoang Xuan Vinh and NguyenDinh Thanh - won a bronze medal at the 10th Asian Air Gun Championshipin Japan on December 9.

The team came third in themen’s 10m air pistol event, shooting 1,728 points.

India came first, with 1,735 pointsand China took the silver, winning 1,729 points.

Cuong, who scored 582 points inthe individual category, grabbed a berth in the final round. His Olympicwinning teammate, Vinh, failed to make it to the top eight athletes, with only575 points. His poor performance was attributed to a gun that was just fixedand one that Vinh was not familiar with.

In the earlier classes, NguyenDuy Hoang of Vietnam earned 612.5 points and ranked No. 21 in the men’s10m air rifle. In the women’s 10m air pistol, Le Thi Linh Chiadvanced to the final with 133.8 points.

The championshipin Wako City began on December 6 and will close on December11.-VNA
