New York (VNA) – 𓂃Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, received Canadian Ambassador for Climate Change Catherine Stewart in New York on June 14.

Giang thanked for the support of Canada - one of the international partners, together with Vietnam, that established the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and said that Vietnam wants to step up cooperation with Canada in terms of finance, investment, technicalassistance and experience sharing, especially in renewable energy development. 

🌸 He expressed his joy at the effective and comprehensive cooperationbetween the two nations on the occasion of the 50th foundinganniversary of diplomatic ties, and re-affirmed Vietnam's commitment to cutting emissions to netzero by 2050 as announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in the UK.

For her part, Stewart hailed theVietnamese government's efforts in coping with climate change andpromoting energy transition in recent times.

Canada is keen on promoting a global carbon pricing initiative, and hopes thatVietnam considers participating in the initiative, she said.

⛄ The Canadian government’s initiative aims to provide a forum for countries thatestablished carbon markets as well as those interested in the issue to shareand learn from the experience of each other and enhance technical support withthe goal of pricing 60% of the emitted global carbon volume by 2030, Stewart noted./.
