Hanoi (VNA)🦋 - The Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association marked its 40th founding anniversary in Hanoi on May 23, reaffirming its role in fostering bilateral ties through cultural, educational, and innovation exchange.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, also President of the Association, highlighted its contributions to people-to-people diplomacy.
Over four decades, the association has built strong links with German counterparts and organised a wide range of exchange activities that support mutual understanding and cooperation.

German Ambassador to Vietnam Helga Mararete Barth praised the friendship between the two nations since 1975, citing deepening political ties and strong economic relations with two-way trade nearing 20 billion EUR.
The ambassador emphasised the vital role of people-to-people connection, particularly among the 200,000 Vietnamese living in Germany, and growing interest among Vietnamese youth in the German language and career opportunities.
Both sides committed to strengthening collaboration in areas of shared interest, with continued support from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations./.
Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Leipzig Bui Quang Huy said that the event was expected to help the second and third generations of overseas Vietnamese in Germany better understand their roots, and the Vietnamese community in Leipzig to strengthen solidarity.
A major highlight of the visit was a trade promotion forum on Vietnam–Germany agro-forestry-aquatic products, which attracted participation from various trade associations, vocational training institutions, German distribution channels, supermarket chains, and nearly 50 companies specialising in the production, processing, and logistics of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products.
With funds of nearly 2 million EUR from BMUV, the SUA project stands as a flagship example of scientific research being effectively translated into practical applications, helping address urgent challenges posed by rapid urbanisation, climate change, and the shift towards a carbon-neutral economy.
