Vietnam highlights importance of information sharing in bettering UNGA performance

Hanoi (VNA) – Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, PermanentRepresentative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), has highlighted theimportance of information sharing in improving the efficiency of the operations of theUN General Assembly (UNGA).
Speaking at the 77th-tenure UNGA discussion onthis issue on November 7, Giang emphasised the need to improve the performanceof the UNGA, and to ensure the transparency in the making of decisions andresolutions.
Measures to ensure continuity between the UNGA Presidency termsas well as criteria for gender equality and geographic representation whenappointing the UN’s leading positions should be taken into account, hestressed.
The UNGA should also prioritise efforts to find solutionsand support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,added Giang.
At the event, other countries shared solutions to improvethe UNGA’s performance, including the removal of inappropriate items and theextension of the date of periodical reviews and discussions of topics and resolutions to have more substantive exchange contents tostrengthen the coordination mechanism between the UNGA and other UN agencies./.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, held a working session with President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Csaba Kőrösi on August 19 to discuss UNGA’s working priorities as well as Vietnam’s issues of concern.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 2 adopted a resolution on the organisation of a “High-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response”.
The 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77) was officially launched in New York on September 20 (local time), with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, jointly chairing the opening.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
