Vietnam honoured as World’s Leading Heritage Destination for fourth time
Vietnam has won the World’s Leading Heritage Destination 2023 title of the World Travel Awards for the fourth time so far, reported the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has won the World’s LeadingHeritage Destination 2023 title of the World Travel Awards for the fourth time so far, reported the Vietnam National Authority ofTourism (VNAT).
The award presentation ceremony recently took place in Dubai.
Together with the title obtained in 2019, 2020, and 2022, thistime’s award shows the globally outstanding values and attractiveness of thecountry’s cultural heritage to the international community, the authority said.
Severaldestinations of Vietnam were also granted different awards this year.
Among them, Hanoi won the World’s Leading City Break Destinationtitle while Phu Quoc in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang was named theWorld’s Leading Nature Island Destination. Moc Chau in the northwesternprovince of Son La was listed as the World’s Leading Regional NatureDestination, Ha Nam province the World’s Leading Regional Cultural Destination,and Tam Dao in the northern province of Vinh Phuc the World’s Leading Town Destination.
The World’s Leading Heritage Destination title will continue toaffirm Vietnam’s potential and attractiveness in terms of natural resources andlong-standing cultural heritage values. It will help further popularise thecountry’s tourism images to the international community and also demonstratelocal people’s efforts in preserving and promoting heritage values, accordingto the VNAT.
VNAT Deputy Director Ha Van Sieu said cultural heritage is a tourism resourcewith great attractiveness to travelers, especially international ones. Thetourism sector views cultural heritage as an important pillar of tourism developmentand the building of Vietnam’s tourism brand.
Heritage-based tourism in many places like Hue, Hoi An, Ha Long,Trang An, and Hanoi has created jobs and income for many locals while promotingmutual understanding, respect for cultural diversity, and cultural confluence. Partof the revenue from this type of tourism has been used for heritagepreservation, restoration, honouring, and management.
Heritage tourism has substantially contributed to thepreservation and sustainable exploitation of cultural heritage, he added./.
The world-renowned travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller has announced the best destinations to visit around the world in 2024. In the list of Asian destinations, Da Nang was the only representative of Vietnam to make it to the top, alongside famous destinations such as Chinatown in Bangkok (Thailand), the Kathmandu Valley (Nepal), the Silk Road in Uzbekistan, Singapore, Mongolia, and Sri Lanka.
Houses with traditional architecture play a particularly important role in the Trang An heritage area in Ninh Binh province. In addition to identifying and preserving the value of traditional housing architecture in the core heritage area, Ninh Binh authorities have also focused on promoting the value of the traditional village structure combined with tourism development.
Phu Quoc, dubbed “Pearl Island” of Vietnam, in the southern province of Kien Giang plans to organise a wide range of activities to stimulate tourism in the last month of 2023 and the first months of the following year.
With rich cultural resources, Vietnam has advantages to develop cultural tourism as an important service economic sector, according to Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
Vietnam recorded about 628.3 trillion VND (over 25.8 billion USD) in total earnings from tourists during January - November, said the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
