Hanoi (VNA) – A workshop was held in Hanoi on November 25 to discuss supporting policies and models for businesses in research and tec𝐆hnology transfer to implement Vietnam’s industrialisation strategy within the framework of Vietnam-Japan cooperation.

Participants at the event, co-organised by the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), assessed the situation in joint research and technology transfer between Vietnamese and Japanese firms in six industries prioritised in the industrialisation strategy.
They put forward recommendations to strengthen these activities. The six priority industries include electronics, agricultural machinery, agricultural and seafood processing, ship building, the environment and energy saving, and the manufacture of cars and spare parts.
Speaking at the workshop, Yoichi Sakurada from Mitsubishi Research Institute briefed attendees on one of business supporting models popular in Japan back in the 1980s, in which large enterprises provided help to small- and medium-sized enterprises to help them expand. However, the model was no longer suitable in today’s context, especially in Vietnam, he said, adding that agencies like Japan’s public institutes for research and development would be more effective for technical transfer. Luu Duc Khai, Director of the CIEM’s Rural Economic Development Policies Department, said technology transfer in the agriculture sector today involves not only “techniques” but also economic and management solutions which help connect farmers and enable them to together expand production.-VNA
