More than 500 delegates representing more than 22,000 members of the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) gathered together for the VJA’s 10th Congress, which officially opened in Hanoi on August 7.

🅘 In his opening speech delivered at the event, VJA Chairman Thuan Huu underlined the significance of the congress as it was organised on the occasion of the 90th Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day and as Party congresses are being held at all levels towards the 12th National Party Congress in early 2016.

He asked participants to uphold a democratic spirit and a strong sense of responsibility during discussions at the congress, which are expected to contribute to promoting the development of the country’s Revolutionary Press.

Participants will sit for three days, focusing on assessing and reviewing the implementation of the resolution of the association’s 9th congress, policies and tasks related to press activities set by the resolution of the Party’s 11th Congress, and Directive No.37-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat on improving the role and quality of VJA activities.

They will also discuss and give opinions on the draft political report by VJA’s executive board, and examine and approve the modification and supplement to the association’s Regulations; and other important documents.

The congress will honour crucial achievements made by the VJA and press agencies across the country in national construction and defence. It will also point out shortcomings in press activities and local VJA chapter operations while defining major initiatives for the new term from 2015-2020.

The Association of Vietnam Press Writers, known as the VJA today, was established on April 21, 1950 and chaired by the late journalist Xuan Thuy, who was also a diplomat and a Party leader, for two terms from 1950 to 1962.

The association currently has more than 22,000 members across the nation.
🌱 Over the past 65 years, the VJA has made great contributions to national liberation and development. Its correspondents have bravely covered stories firsthand from battle fields and are continuing their tireless efforts to report news, photos and footage daily.-VNA
