Vietnam labour unions focus on quality services

A meeting on labour relationship, focusing on labour unions’ initiatives to enhance their activities, was held in Hanoi on March 2.
A meeting on labour relationship, focusing on labour unions’ initiativesto enhance their activities, was held in Hanoi on March 2.

The meeting, part of pilot programmes on reforming the organisation ofgrassroot-level trade unions and strengthening the relationship betweenlabour unions and workers, was jointly held by Vietnam GeneralConfederation of Labour (VGCL) and the International Labour Organisation(ILO).

In his opening speech, VGCL Deputy Chairman Nguyen VanNgang said the pilot programmes, launched in November 2010, will serveas important reference models for VGCL’s reforms in order to buildharmonious working relationships in enterprises.

Director ofILO office in Vietnam Gyorgy said the meeting marked Vietnam ’sefforts in building harmonious labour relation during the transitionalprocess towards the socialist-oriented market economy.

The ILO pledged to further assist VGCL in developing new methods to improve its role in workplace relationships.

Delegates at the meeting discussed measures to improve ways to gathermembers, set up labour unions and improve the quality of collective workcontracts.

They also shared experiences and recommendations from lessons learned during the implementation of the pilot programme.-VNA
