Vietnam marks 30-year participation in UPU letter writing contest

Vietnam’s 30-years of participation in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) letter writing contest was marked at an event held in Hanoi on May 22.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi’s Departments of Information and Communications, and Educationand Training, and the Hanoi Post held an event in the city on May 22 to markVietnam’s 30-years of participation in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) letterwriting contest.

The annualinternational letter writing competition for young people has been run at thenational and international levels since 1971, with millions of under-15 childrenfrom all over the world taking part in.

The contest aimsto develop children’s writing skills and creativity and tighten bonds amongnations.

Through the themesof the contest, participants discuss important social issues.

Vietnam firstlaunched the nation-level contest in 1987. It has been held annually fromOctober in the previous year to February of the following year.

Over the past 30years, the country has won two first, two second, three third and five consolationprizes at the international level.-VNA
