Cairo (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt has held a ceremony to mark the 79th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - 2024).
The August 19 event saw the attendance of Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Shaheen, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia-Pacific; General Secretary of the Egyptian Communist Party Salah Adly Abdelhafiz; Secretary-General of the Egyptian Socialist Party Ahmed Bahaa El-Din Shaaban; representatives of several Egyptian ministries and agencies, many foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Cairo; international friends; and overseas Vietnamese in Egypt.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huy Dung underlined the significance of the National Day and milestones Vietnam has made over the past 79 years.
For the Vietnam-Egypt relationship, he said it has been continuously developing in many fields since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 1963. Egypt is one of the first countries in the Middle East and North Africa to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
Dung said the bilateral trade relations have continued to record positive signs, with Vietnam's exports to Egypt in the first half of 2024 reaching 246 million USD, up 4.1% over the same period last year.
The largest project of Vietnam in Egypt worth 30 million USD, also the first wholly invested by the Southeast Asian nation, has come into operation in Sadat city, Monufia province. More and more Vietnamese enterprises are interested in the Egyptian market, Dung said.
The ambassador affirmed Vietnam appreciates Egypt's important role in promoting stability and security in the region, and that Vietnam will stand side by side with Egypt and other countries in joint efforts to promote promote dialogues and provide humanitarian aid for residents in conflict-affected areas, contributing to peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
For his part, Ambassador Ahmed Shaheen suggested the two countries step up high-level delegation exchanges, and enhance cooperation in various fields, especially economy, trade, science-technology, education, culture and tourism.
