Vietnam ready to mobilise all resources for national strategy on biodiversity

Vietnam will further actively be part of efforts for the global biodiversity preservation and is willing to mobilise all resources for effectively implement its national strategy on the matter, affirmed Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Vo Tuan Nhan.

Ottawa (VNA) -  Vietnamwill further actively be part of efforts for the global biodiversity preservationand is willing to mobilise all resources for effectively implement its nationalstrategy on the matter, affirmed Deputy Minister of Environment and NaturalResources Vo Tuan Nhan.

Addressing a high-level session of the ongoing 15thmeeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention onBiological Diversity (CBD) in Canada, the Deputy Minister called on member countriesto take similar actions towards building a prosperous and healthy planet.

As an active member of the convention, Vietnam recommended quicklyestablishing mechanisms to support its implementation, including new ones forfinance, resource mobilisation, capacity building, technique, scientificcooperation and technology transfer.

It is also necessary to strengthen cooperation amongstakeholders to successfully realise the ambitious goals of the globalbiodiversity framework, creating opportunities for each person, organisation,and country to maximise their roles and responsibilities in realising Vision2050 on living in harmony with nature.

Vietnam joined the CBD in 1994. In January 2022, theVietnamese Government approved a national strategy on biodiversity to 2030 witha vision to 2050.

COP 15 takes place from December 7 to 19 in Montreal, with governmentsfrom around the world coming together to agree on a new set of goals to guideglobal action through 2030 to halt and reverse nature loss./.

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🦹 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
