The Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City have been continuously named in both rankings.

Their rankings have improved over the past three years. In the latest QS rankings, the VNU and the VNU HCM have been placed at the 499th and 398th in the world for academic reputation, up 25 and 3 places against 2021, respectively. The QS rankings feature 1,300 of the world’s most prestigious universities in 93 countries and territories, based on a methodology that assesses each institution on six metrics, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio. The ranking criteria emphasise the contribution and impact of a university’s quality of training and research to society (through the assessment of businesses, as well as domestic and foreign scholars), and its contribution to scientific research (via the number of citations/lecturers).

In 2020, the number of institutions was 500. Universities were ranked by performance in five areas: teaching (learning environment); research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students, and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer). Among the Vietnamese representatives, the VNU achieved the highest score in the areas of teaching, research, citations, and international outlook, while the VNU HCM earned the highest score in industry income./.
