Vietnam sees 20,000 domestic violence cases annually

As many as 20,000 domestic violence cases have been reported each year in the last five years with increasingly serious violence, according to Ministry of Health statistics.

Hanoi (VNA) – Asmany as 20,000 domestic violence cases have been reported each year in the lastfive years with increasingly serious violence, according to Ministry of Healthstatistics.

One person is killed everytwo or three days due to domestic violence, the majority of them women andchildren, said a report by non-governmental organisations that was released ata conference in Hanoion November 28.

To respond to the problem,the Ministry of Health has spread information on the Law on Domestic ViolationPrevention, while guiding health care facilities to report patients who arevictims of domestic violence.

Along with providing healthcare services for victims, the ministry has coordinated with authorisedagencies in handling domestic violation cases in line with law.

During the conference, theministry launched an action month for gender equality and gender-based domesticviolence prevention, which calls on men to become pioneers in preventingviolence against women.-VNA
