Vietnam sends relief aid to Zimbabwe cyclone victims

- The Vietnamese Embassy, the Vietnam NewsAgency (VNA)’s bureau and the Vietnamese Women’s Association in South Africa onApril 30 handed over relief aid to the Zimbabwe Embassy in support of Zimbabwepeople who were hit by Cyclone Idai last March.

The relief aid, includingtwo tonnes of food along with clothes and learning tools, are expected to betransported to Zimbabwe on May 1 and presented to the Zimbabwe victims later.

On behalf of the ZimbabweAmbassador to South Africa, his spouse Jessica Hamadziripi lauded the gooddeeds of the Vietnamese community in the host country and Vietnamese people ingeneral.

Second Secretary of theVietnamese Embassy Phuong Phuong Linh said as a country frequently affected bynatural disasters, Vietnam shares difficulties and losses facing Zimbabwepeople.

She hoped that Zimbabwepeople will swiftly surpass these difficulties and overcome the cyclone’sconsequences.

Statistics show that Cyclone Idaikilled more than 1,000 people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, and directlyaffected daily lives and livelihoods of over 3 million others.

The World Bank (WB) estimatedthat the Idai-hit countries will need over 2 billion USD for restorationefforts.

In Zimbabwe alone, the stormleft nearly 300 people dead and caused property losses worth over 200 millionUSD. -VNA
