Vietnam and the Republic of Seychelles have issued a jointstatement on the occasion of President James Alix Michel’s officialvisit to Vietnam from August 28-29 at the invitation of PresidentTruong Tan Sang.
The statement says this is second officialvisit to Vietnam made by a high-ranking leader of Seychelles inthe last 33 years.
While staying in Vietnam , PresidentMichel held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, during which the twoleaders committed to ushering in a new stage for Vietnam-Seychellesrelationship on the basis of mutual respect, for common values andbenefits.
They expressed their hope to further enhancelinkages between Governments, businesses and people to facilitate goodstransportation between the two countries.
Both consented toincreasing the exchange of delegations at all levels in order to createan impetus for the friendly political ties as well as economic, culturaland social partnership between Vietnam and Seychelles .
They compared notes on the implementation of several already-signedagreements such as the agreement on technical assistance in 1986 and theagreement on economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperationin 2010.
The leaders reached consensus on the need to engage innew agreements on political-diplomacy, trade, oil and gas, aviation,environment, agriculture, fishery, tourism, climate change adaptationand “green economy” research.
Applauding the signing ofcooperation agreements on diplomacy, aviation, tourism and trade, theywere unanimous in expanding bilateral trade ties for mutual benefit inthe coming time.
The two Presidents welcomed theestablishment of a regular dialogue and consultation mechanism betweenthe two foreign ministries.
While exchanging views onpotential for cooperation in national defence and security, they agreedto expand mutually beneficial cooperation in capacity enhancement andexperience sharing in observing marine law and fighting cross-bordercrimes such as drug smugglers and pirates.
They took note ofcoordination between Vietnam and Seychelles at internationalforums and discussed several international issues of common concern andothers regarding the “green economy”, sustainable development, climatechange, food security and clean energy.
The SeychellesPresident voiced his hope for further cooperation with Association ofSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states to promote their mutuallybeneficial partnerships.
President Sang thanked the SeychellesGovernment for recognising Vietnam ’s market economic status,describing it as an important contribution to the traditional friendshipand cooperation between the two countries.
