Vietnam, Singapore hold 8th defence policy dialogue

Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and Singaporean Permanent Secretary for Defence Chan Yeng Kit co-chaired the 8th Vietnam-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue in Hanoi on October 9.
Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of National Defence SeniorLieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Singaporean Permanent Secretary for DefenceChan Yeng Kit co-chaired the 8th Vietnam-Singapore Defence PolicyDialogue in Hanoi on October 9.

At the dialogue, the two sides exchanged views onsecurity issues in the Asia-Pacifice region and reviewed recent cooperation between the two countries' armed forces.

Both sides agreed that the bilateral defence partnershiphas made good progress with positive results in terms of exchange visit,dialogue mechanism, consultation, training, army medicine, maritime security,and search and rescue.

Both sides agreed to further enhance defence cooperationin the time ahead to match the strategic partnership between the two countries.They will continue maintaing defence policy dialogue at deputy minister level,the main pillar of the two nations’ defence cooperation, to discuss strategic issues and develop cooperation plans for strengthening the ties.

They will also support each other at multilateral forumsand work to heighten ASEAN’s central role in regional security architectures.

The same day, Minister of National Defence General Ngo Xuan Lich received Singaporean PermanentSecretary for Defence Chan Yeng Kit who is on visit to Vietnam from October 9-10. Lich described dialogue as an activity to contribute boosting the friendship, mutual understanding and trust between defence ministries ofVietnam and Singapore.

He spoke highly of what the two sides have achieved fromtheir cooperation and vowed to facilitate the development of the ties in hisposition.-VNA
