Vietnam-Thailand joint working group meets in Da Nang

The Vietnam-Thailand Joint Working Group on Political and Security Cooperation convened its sixth meeting in the central city of Da Nang on August 7.
The Vietnam-Thailand Joint Working Group on Political and SecurityCooperation convened its sixth meeting in the central city of Da Nangon August 7.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security,Lieut. Gen. To Lam, and General Secretary of the Thai National SecurityCouncil Pattanatabut co-chaired the two-day event.

The twosides exchanged views on regional and international issues that affecteach country’s security and assessed progress in the Vietnam-Thailandrelationship.

They affirmed their commitments to not allowingany individual or organisation to take advantage of each country’sterritory to oppose the other.

The working group reviewed thetwo countries’ cooperation in combating cross-border crimes, nationaldefence, judiciary and other related issues.

They alsodiscussed and proposed measures to reduce violations committed byfishermen and fishing boats at the minimum level as well as cooperate indealing with illegal workers.

The two sides adopted a workingprogramme for the 2014-2016 period in order to implement theVietnam-Thailand Security Vision and other high-level agreements.

The meeting followed the establishment of a strategic partnershipbetween the two countries during a visit to Thailand by GeneralSecretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong in Junewhich marked a new step in the development of bilateral relations.

The next meeting will be held in Thailand in 2014.-VNA
