Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will undertake the Chair of the Committee onEarth Observation Satellites (CEOS) in 2019, according to the Vietnam NationalSpace Centre.
The information was announced at the 32nd CEOS Plenary heldin Belgium from October 16-18, the centre said, adding that its GeneralDirector Pham Anh Tuan will represent Vietnam to hold the position.
The Chair’s main tasks are to play a central role in coordinatingmissions of member offices, as well as connecting and expanding members andattracting their contributions to earth observations of the committee.
Tuan revealed as the committee’s Chair, Vietnam will putforward two initiatives, including carbon observation, especially in forests inorder to serve forest management and supervision, and observation servingagricultural development, with the focus on rice.
These applications are essential to the assessment ofagricultural development in Vietnam and will be extended to the nations in theMekong River region, Tuan added.
