Vietnam to maintain dialogue with US to promote bilateral trade: vice spokesperson

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will continue to monitor and assess the impact ofthe US’s removal of Vietnam from the list of developing countries under UScountervailing duty laws, Vice Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Doan KhacViet said on February 20.
Thevice spokesperson stressed that Vietnam will maintain dialogue and continue tocoordinate measures with the US in order to promote the harmonious andsustainable development of bilateral trade, benefitting both sides.
Hemade the statement in reply to reporters’ questions about Vietnam’s response tothe US move.
Notingthat Vietnam is still benefiting from its developing nation status within theframework of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Viet stressed that economicand trade ties between Vietnam and the US have developed fruitfully over recentyears, with two-way trade reaching nearly 76 billion USD in 2019, up 25 percentyear-on-year.
The US has maintained its position as the biggest export market ofVietnam, while Vietnam is among the fastest growing export markets of the US,he added./.
The visit to Vietnam by US Secretary of Defence Mark Esper on November 20-21 aims to deepen the bilateral defence ties in a practical and effective manner, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.
