Vietnam, UK eye stronger cooperation in research, knowledge transfer

Hundreds of managers, education experts and representatives of Vietnamese and UK universities gathered at a seminar on education organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and the Vietnam-UK Higher Education Partnership Network in London on April 13.

London (VNA) – Hundredsof managers, education experts and representatives of Vietnamese and UKuniversities gathered at a seminar on education organised by the VietnameseEmbassy in the UK and the Vietnam-UK Higher Education Partnership Network in Londonon April 13.

The event, held in the hybrid format, is part ofactivities within the framework of the Vietnam Days in the UK from March 28 - April27 to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the diplomaticrelations between the two countries.

The seminar concentrated on evaluating research and knowledge transfer inVietnam, as well as measures to develop an excellent framework for this work tobe suitable for the higher education context in Vietnam.

Participants focused their discussion on solutions to develop an excellent research evaluation system, improvethe quality of research, encourage innovation and development, and build trustamong stakeholders.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to theUK Nguyen Hoang Long spoke highly of the role played by the Vietnam-UK HigherEducation Partnership Network in promoting education cooperation between thetwo countries, affirming that the UK is the leading education partner ofVietnam with more than 100 cooperation programmes, and many Vietnamese students consider the UK a top destination for theirstudy in many fields.

He highlighted the role of the network in supporting and meeting the demand ofstudents from the two nations, saying that the demand is important to determineeducational cooperation orientation between the two countries in the future.

The embassy is willing to support the network in connecting and enhancing educationalcooperation between Vietnam and the UK, he affirmed.

Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council Vietnam, said thatthe council is committed to supporting Vietnam in its higher education reformagenda, and working closely with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education andTraining to strengthen educational cooperation between the two nations throughsharing experience and cooperation in strategic areas such as universityleadership, gender equality, and social inclusion; innovation and knowledgetransfer; digital conversion; and examination and accreditation of highereducation quality.

She expressed the hope that thepartnership with Vietnam will help the British Council share the best Britisheducational practices with Vietnamese universities, at the same time bringing moreopportunities for the two countries to expand higher education cooperation.

Prof. Raymond Lee, Co-chair of the Vietnam-UKHigher Education Partnership Network, said there is ample room for the twonations to enhance cooperation in higher education, especially in training, researchand knowledge transfer.

The network is working to create the environment and opportunities to connect educational partnersof both nations and further develop their partnership in the future, he said.  

Established in October 2018, the Vietnam-UK Higher Education Partnership Network aims to become an innovative network, promoting theinternationalisation of higher education in teaching and learning, research andinnovation./.
