Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – The Vietnam Urban Planning andDevelopment Agency (VUPDA) and the American Planning Association -International Division (APA-ID) on November 21 signed a Memorandum ofUnderstanding (MoU) to further strengthen their partnership in addressingglobal urban planning challenges.
VUPDA President Tran Ngoc Chinh and Chair of APA-ID Jing Zhangofficially signed the MoU, solidifying a partnership that promises to fostercooperation and knowledge sharing between the two organisations, with a focuson addressing critical urban planning challenges faced by both Vietnam and theUS.
"We are excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of VUPDAand mark this occasion by solidifying our partnership with APA-ID. Thiscollaboration represents a significant milestone in our efforts to address thecomplex urban planning challenges we face today," said Chinh.
"We believe that by working together, we can leverage theexpertise and knowledge of both organisations to develop innovative solutionsfor the urban planning challenges that our countries share,” said Zhang, addingthat the partnership is a testament to both sides’ commitment to fosteringglobal collaboration.
The MoU is a significant development amid the upgraded US-VietnamComprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasising a joint vision forinnovation-driven, inclusive economic growth, said a representative of the USConsulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking at the hybrid event, Prof. Bill Anderson, the formernational President of the American Planning Association (2013-2015) and aProfessor at UC San Diego, highlighted the importance of internationalconnections in urban planning and expressed high expectations for futurecollaboration with Vietnamese planners.
The MoU signing not only represents a significant step forward inaddressing the shared challenges of urban development, but also reflects thestrengthening of the relationship between Vietnam and the US. It showcases thecommitment of both organisations to work hand in hand to create moresustainable and resilient cities for the benefit of current and futuregenerations./.
