Vietnam wins two awards at scientific creation contest in US

Vietnamese students won two fourth awards at the 2014 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held in the US from May 11-16, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The award winners were Tran Thi Dieu Lien and Nguyen Nam Du fromthe Le Hong Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City with the project“Electronic Braille Display for the Visually Impaired”, and thethree-member group: Dang Yen Lan, Tran Tien Dat and Dang Anh Tu from theHanoi Amsterdam High School with the entry “Lipid Production byOleaginous Fungi Grown on Rice Straw for Potential Biodiesel Resource.”

The “Electronic Braille Display for the Visually Impaired”project by Tran Thi Dieu Lien and Nguyen Nam Du also won the secondaward granted by the charity foundation Open Hearts of Ukraine.

Morethan 1,700 young scientists from 76 countries and territories aroundthe world showcased their research at this year’s event, which is theworld’s largest international pre-college science competition.

Atthe Intel ISEF, awards are based on students’ abilities to tacklechallenging scientific questions, use authentic research practices, andcreate solutions for future problems.-VNA
