Vietnam–China people-to-people exchanges enhanced through flight connectivity

The new air routes play a key role in strengthening connectivity between Vietnam and China, especially as 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, and the Year of China-Vietnam Humanistic Exchange. They represent an important step forward in fostering aviation cooperation between the two countries, while also providing favourable opportunities for tourism development, trade cooperation, and cultural exchanges between their cities.

Beijing (VNA) – The recent expansion of flight routes and increased flight frequency between China and Vietnam have significantly enhanced connectivity, offering faster, more convenient and efficient transport options for cooperation and development, injecting fresh momentum to deepen economic-trade exchanges and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations.

On March 30 morning, flight MF8697 operated by China's Xiamen Airlines landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, marking the successful launch of a regular round-trip direct flight between Fuzhou and Hanoi, lifting total weekly direct flights to Vietnam operated by Xiamen Airlines to 25. Fuzhou becomes the 20th Chinese city to establish a direct flight connection with Vietnam. Meanwhile, on the inaugural return flight to Fuzhou, 25 representatives from major Vietnamese travel agencies joined a cultural tourism survey trip, aiming to explore and develop high-quality tour routes and products. The Fuzhou – Hanoi route is expected to enhance travel convenience, boost tourism growth in both countries’ cities, and pave the way for future tourism initiatives, contributing to increasing two-way visitor flows between Vietnam and China.

On the other hand, Vietnamese airlines are also expanding their flight networks to China.

On the same day, Vietnam Airlines officially launched a new route connecting Beijing Daxing and Ho Chi Minh City. The national flag carrier also increased the number of flights from Beijing Capital International Airport to Hanoi to one flight per day, instead of five flights per week. Vietnam Airlines now operates six regular routes to China, with a total of 40 weekly flights connecting Hanoi and HCM City to major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.

VietJet Air has recently opened five new direct routes connecting big cities in China and Vietnam. On March 31, the airline began operating direct flights from Beijing and Guangzhou to HCM City, and from Guangzhou to Hanoi. On April 1, it launched the Beijing–Hanoi direct route, followed by the Shanghai–Hanoi route on April 29.

Addressing the ceremony to launch VietJet Air’s new routes from HCM City to Beijing and Guangzhou, Chinese Consul General in HCM City Wei Huaxiang emphasised that these new routes will benefit both Vietnam and China by boosting economic, trade, culture, and tourism cooperation, thus contributing to further deepening close friendship between their people.

VietJet Air Deputy CEO Do Xuan Quang stated that the airline plans to continue expanding its flight network between Vietnam and China, helping to build a stronger bridge for exchanges and connectivity between the two countries.
