Vietnamese agencies honoured with JICA President Award

Two Vietnamese agencies on December 13 received the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Award 2018 for their contributions to Vietnam’s development through international cooperation.

Hanoi (VNA) – Two Vietnamese agencies on December 13 received the Japan InternationalCooperation Agency (JICA) President Award 2018 for their contributions toVietnam’s development through international cooperation.  

The NationalBanknote Printing Plant (NBPP) under the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and theCentre for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC) of theHealth Ministry were both honoured.

The NBPP has workedwith the Japanese agency to run a project to strengthen capacity in printingink production since 2014.

Additionally, the POLYVACand JICA have cooperated on a technical cooperation project to improvemeasles-rubella combined vaccine production.

Under the project,which has a total funding of 707 million JPY (7.51 million USD), Japaneseexperts have been dispatched to Vietnam for technological transfer and their Vietnamesepeers have been trained in Japan.

The annual JICAPresident Award was first launched in 1975 to honour individuals and organisationswhich make significant contributions to socio-economic development andpersonnel training in developing countries through international cooperation.

Awards were presentedto 38 individuals and 14 collectives this year.

The JICA’scooperation programmes in Vietnam focus on spurring economic growth, enhancingthe country’s international competitive edge, supporting vulnerable groups andstrengthening State administration. -VNA
