Hanoi (VNA) – Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had telephone talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on April 14.

Son congratulated China on its achievements in socio-economic developmentand external relations, expressing his belief that China will successfullyorganise the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China in thisyear.

He affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to andhopes to further bolster the Vietnam-China ties in a stable and sustainablemanner.

For his part, Wang affirmed that the Party and Government ofChina are interested in further developing the comprehensive strategiccooperative partnership with Vietnam, considering it as a priority in itsneighbourhood diplomatic strategy.

Both sides shared delight at the sound progress in the relations between thetwo Parties and countries, and concurred to continue increasing high-levelexchanges and meeting, promoting practical cooperation across all fields,strengthening coordination in facilitating bilateral trade and removingbarriers in border trade, and soon recognising each other’s vaccine passport tomake travelling and exchange activities easier.

They had an open and straightforward discussion on the sea issues and agreed towork hard together to control and deal with disputes in the spirit ofrespecting each other’s legitimate rights and interest, strictly implementingagreements on the basic principles guiding the settlement of Vietnam-China sea-relatedissues and international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea1982, and together with ASEAN reaching positive progress for the Code ofConduct in the East Sea (COC).

The two FMs also exchanged viewpoints on regional andinternational matters of shared concern, including the Ukraine issue. FM Son underlinedVietnam’s consistent policy of supporting the settlement of disputes anddifferences by peaceful measures in line with the UN Charter andfundamental principles of international law, ensuring security and safety forcivilians, and protecting basic civil infrastructure system. Vietnam supportsand is willing to make positive contributions to humanitarian relief activities,diplomatic processes, dialogues and negotiations as well as the reconstructionand recovery process in Ukraine, Son stated./.
