Vietnamese, Cuban deputy foreign ministers hold political consultation

Hanoi (VNA) – The 6th Vietnam-Cubapolitical consultation at the deputy foreign minister level was convened viavideoconference on March 2, under the chair of Permanent Deputy Minister ofForeign Affairs of Vietnam Bui Thanh Son and First Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs of Cuba Marcelino Medina Gonzalez.
Participants in the event included VietnameseAmbassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung and Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam OrlandoNicolas Hernandez.
Deputy Minister Son spoke of Vietnam’ssituation, including the prominent outcomes of the 13th National PartyCongress, measures in response to COVID-19, economic development, and socialsecurity ensuring.
He affirmed that Vietnam always treasures andwishes to continue deepening the special traditional friendship andcomprehensive cooperation with Cuba.

For his part, Gonzalez also informed about thesituation of his country, countermeasures to address difficulties caused bysanctions and the COVID-19 pandemic, and the updating of the socio-economicmodel.
The two officials reviewed and assessed theareas of cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, as well as between the twoforeign ministries. They also looked into ways to develop bilateral relationsin a more intensive and comprehensive manner.
They agreed to keep close coordination toorganise high-level visits when possible; effectively carry out cooperationmechanisms; increase exchanges between the countries’ ministries, sectors, andbusinesses; promote trade and investment ties; and work together in suchspheres as food security, education, healthcare, science - technology, culture,sports, and tourism.
At the consultation, the deputy foreignministers had in-depth discussion about global and regional issues of sharedconcern. They concurred in the continuation of coordination and mutual supportat international organisations and multilateral forums of which both Vietnamand Cuba are members./.
Vietnam and Cuba sought measures to increase two-way trade to 500 million USD in 2025 during the 38th meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee, held online on December 30.
