Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese embassies in Brunei and Bangladesh have hostedrespect-paying services for former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu.
The condolence bookfor the former leader remained open at the Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei onAugust 14-15.

At the ceremony, Erywan Pehin Yusof, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs of Brunei, expressed his sympathy to the Vietnamese Governmentand people over the passing of the former Party chief.
Ambassadorsof foreign countries in Brunei also came to the ceremony to pay their respectto the late leader.
Asimilar ceremony was held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh from August14-16.
FormerParty General Secretary Phieu passed away at 2.52am on August 7 at hishome in Hanoi after a period of illness. Vietnam observed two days of national mourning for the leaderon August 14-15./.
Before being elected as Party General Secretary, Le Kha Phieu devoted 40 years of his life to the army, mostly during Vietnam’s resistance wars against French colonialism and US imperialism and an international mission in Cambodia. He was known as a humble, devoted soldier.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan had a meeting in Hanoi on August 15 with President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin who is in Vietnam for the national mourning of former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
