Vietnamese in Laos hold ceremony in honour of Hung Kings
A first-ever ceremony commemorating the death anniversary of Hung Kings, the legendary founders of Vietnam, took place at the headquarters of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos on April 6.
Vientiane (VNA) – A first-ever ceremony commemorating the death anniversary ofHung Kings, the legendary founders of Vietnam, took place at the headquartersof the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos on April 6.
Theceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung, Chairmanof the general association Nguyen Duy Trung, Chairman of the VietnameseAssociation in Vientiane Le Van Mui, and head of the Association for Liaisonwith Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Phu Binh.
Fromthe Lao side, it saw the participation of Somok Kingsada, Vice President of theLao Front for National Construction’s Central Committee, and BounnaPhathummavong, Director of the Vientiane department of home affairs.
Nearly200 delegates from Vietnam’s representative agencies, the Vietnamese businessassociation and overseas Vietnamese community in Laos were also present at theevent.
Followingtraditional rituals, the commemoration ceremony was chaired by head of PhatTich Pagoda in Vientiane Venerable Thich Minh Quang, who is also head of the VietnamBuddhist Sangha’s coordination committee for Vietnamese Buddhist cooperation inLaos.
The event helps Lao people understanding more about the culture of worshipping ofthe Vietnamese people while strengthening the ties among the Vietnamese livingin Laos.
Legendhas it that the Hung Kings ruled Vietnam from 2879 BC until 258 BC and they arewidely considered the founders of the nation. To honour the Kings, the tenthday of the third lunar month was designated as their national commemorativeanniversary date.
Theworshipping rituals of the Hung Kings are closely related to the ancestralworshipping tradition of most Vietnamese families which forms an important partof people's spiritual lives. It was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible CulturalHeritage of Humanity in 2012.-VNA
As an annual tradition, a delegation of overseas Vietnamese will attend ceremonies on the occasion of the death anniversary of Hung Kings from April 22 to 29 at the invitation of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.
Over 1,000 Vietnamese expatriates attended a ceremony at Sapa Shopping Mall in Prague, the Czech Republic, on April 17 to commemorate the death anniversary of Hung Kings and learn about their roots.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach.
