Vietnamese telecom group helps Laos apply E-Office system

Vientiane (VNA) – The Vietnam Post andTelecommunication Group (VNPT) and the Laos’ Ministry of Post andTelecommunications (MPT) on March 15 launched the E-Office – an electronic documentmanagement system jointly developed by the two sides.

The event marked a new milestone in the partnership between VNPTand the Lao Ministry since they signed their memorandum of understanding oncooperation in e-government development in April 2017.

Addressing the launching ceremony, MPT Minister ThansamayKommasith said that modernisation is a priority task of the Party and State ofLaos, which was included in the resolution of the 10th National Congressof the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

Therefore, the MPT, which is in charge of macro-management overmodernisation and digitalisation of the Lao Government, has built a cooperationplan with the VNPT since 2015 in developing the E-Office, he said.

The minister underlined that the development of the systemwill help improve the quality and efficiency of state management, while facilitatingthe access to public services through the electronic and digital systems forall social groups.

He expressed his belief that the collaboration between thetwo sides as well as between Vietnam and Laos will be further developed in thefuture.

E-Office has been applied in all departments anddepartment-level agencies of the MPT, with over 3,000 documents stored in thesystem so far, making it easier for the exchange of documents among the unitsas well as the tracking of document sending and receiving through smart phones.

In addition, the application of E-Office is expected toimprove IT skills of public workers, said the minister.

He revealed that in the future, the system will be used inall agencies of the MPT as well as other ministries and sectors of the LaoGovernment. He also showed his hope for stronger partnership with Vietnam andthe VNPT in particular in the coming time.

E-Office is one of the solutions developed by the VNPT,which has been refined to suit the demand of the Lao side, helping save timeand cost in document sending and reception among agencies, thus paving the wayfor the development of e-government and digital economy of Laos.-VNA
