Vietnamese Women’s Day celebrated in Malaysia

The liaison board of the Vietnamese community in the Malaysian state of Johor held a gathering on October 22 in celebration of the Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20).

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The liaison board of theVietnamese community in the Malaysian state of Johor held a gathering on October22 in celebration of the Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20).

Addressing the nearly 300 participants, Tran Thi Ly Ly, headof the Johor sub-association of Vietnamese women, said there are about 5,000Vietnamese people in this state. Some 20% of them marry locals, mostlyChinese-Malaysians, while the remainders work at garment andelectronics factories.

The Johor sub-association hoped that the gathering would helpVietnamese women in Malaysia meet one another to create an inter-connected community that would contribute to the homeland.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia, CounsellorNguyen Thi Ngoc Anh emphasised the role of women and praised those who havesurmounted difficulties to stabilise their lives and assist the community todevelop.

The embassy will always stand side by side with, and supportthe Vietnamese community in Malaysia to settle down, she affirmed.

At the gathering, Malaysian lawyer Mohd Daud Leong was alsoinvited to help participants learn about the local law on marriage and family.

The southern state of Johor accommodates the largest numberof Vietnamese people in Malaysia. In recent years, the number of Vietnamesecoming to work here and marrying locals has been on the rise. Many have alsoseen success in opening and running their own businesses./.
