Vietnamese youngsters optimistic about job hunting

More than 74 percent of Vietnamese university students interviewed said they are confident to find a job one to four months after graduation, according to a fresh survey jointly conducted by the Adecco Vietnam and AIESEC Vietnam companies.

The findings, announcedon July 29 in Ho Chi Minh City , showed that 80 percent of theyoungsters hope to seek occupations in accounting, informationtechnology and finance.

However, in fact, only 20.75percent of graduates got hired and it took them 6-9 months to seekfavourite jobs, Adecco Vietnam General Director Nicola Connollyquoted last year’s statistics as saying.

She suggested young people prepare themselves with soft skills before entering the job market.

The survey also indicated that around 40 percent of the intervieweeswant to pursue post-graduate courses at home or abroad whilethree-fifths picked up working environment as a decisive factor for themto choose a job. Nearly half of the students commented that knowledgethey acquire from university does not serve their future jobs much.

According to President of Marketing at AIESEC Vietnam Lee Dalchow, thesurvey was conducted on 2,657 students from 80 universities in majorcities such as Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City , and Da Nang . Itsquestionnaire focused on four topics: study, work, communication andsocial responsibility.

After its second phase is completed in September, the survey will be maintained on a yearly basis.-VNA
