Vietnam’s Deputy Defence Minister talks cyber security at 8th Seoul defence dialogue

Seoul (VNA) – Deputy Defence Minister Sen.Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh has addressed an opening session of the workinggroup on cyber security within the framework of the ongoing eighth Seouldefence dialogue in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.

Cyber space has become a newstrategic and special territory that closely links with socio-economicdevelopment, protection of national sovereignty, interests and security, DeputyDefence Minister Vinh said.

He called oncountries to join efforts to fight dangers from cyber space; together maintainpeace, stability and ensure national sovereignty and interests of each nation.

Vinh saidcountries need to build and fine-tune international laws on cyber space, joinconventions and joint statements on cyber security cooperation on the basis ofrespect for sovereignty, equality and mutual benefits for the goal of usingcyber space for the purpose of peace, development and cooperation.

Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh led a Vietnamesedelegation to the eighth Seoul defence dialogue in Seoul, the Republic of Korea(RoK), from September 3 – 9.

Themed “BuildingPeace Together: Challenges and Visions”, the dialogue attracted defenceleaders, experts and scholars from 56 countries and six internationalorganisations.

It featuredfour plenary sessions on peace process on the Korean peninsula andinternational cooperation, peace in North East Asia: challenges and missions, peacekeepingcampaigns and international humanitarian assistance, national strategy andcrisis management on cyber space.

On theoccasion, Deputy Defence Minister Vinh met Canadian Deputy Defence Minister JudyThomas, during which both sides discussed joint work across the exchange ofdelegations, training, the United Nations peacekeeping mission, and visits to navalvessels.

Thomas informedthat Canada will send defence attachés to Vietnam next year.

Welcoming themove, Vinh affirmed that the Vietnamese Defence Ministry will offer allpossible support to Canadian defence attachés in Vietnam.

He stated thatVietnam supports Canada’s widespread collaboration with ASEAN, including theASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM Plus).-VNA
