Viettel launches 5G technology in Laos

Military-run telecom group Viettel plans to roll out fifth generation (5G) technology in Laos, its third overseas launch of the service after Cambodia and Myanmar.

Hanoi (VNA) – Military-run telecom group Viettelplans to roll out fifth generation (5G) technology in Laos, its third overseaslaunch of the service after Cambodia and Myanmar.

Accordingly, Star Telecom (Unitel), in which Viettel owns a49 percent stake, will become the first operator to offer the 5G technology inthe country.

In February this year, Unitel was a pioneer in introducingeSIMs to the Lao people, helping the country rank 7th out of 10ASEAN member states in terms of advanced telecommunications services.

Founded in October 2009, the Viettel subsidiary operatesacross all 17 provinces and cities in Laos and has led the market for eightconsecutive years. It is also the Lao Government’s partner in implementing thecountry’s key e-government systems./.
