Vingroup opens new AI research institute

Giant IT-real-estate-manufacturing-retail conglomerate Vingroup on April 17 opened VinAI Research, a research institute focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) with the goal of elevating Vietnam’s role in the AI world.

Hanoi (VNA) - Giant IT-real-estate-manufacturing-retail conglomerateVingroup on April 17 opened VinAI Research, a research institute focusing onartificial intelligence (AI) with the goal of elevating Vietnam’s role in theAI world.

The institute will study basic AI science applications in image and videoprocessing, linguistic and voice recognition and user interaction, according toVingroup.

It will give priority to the hottest topics and issues in Vietnam and theworld.

The institute also plans to train top AI specialists for Vingroup and Vietnamin general, fostering young talents for the future and transferring AItechnologies to the parent company and partners.

The new AI research centre will be chaired by Dr Bui Hai Hung, former senior AIexpert for Google and member of the editorial board at Artificial Intelligencemagazine.

Hung has had nearly 100 studies published in well-known IT magazines, and hasnearly 10 invention certificates issued by the US agencies.

The establishment of VinAI Research, which is managed by Vingroup’s technologyarm VinTech, is the group’s next step to upgrade its business to aninternational level in technology, services and industrial fields.

Vingroup has opened several technology-focused units such as the ITsub-business VinTech, the Big Data Research Institute and the VingroupInnovation Fund. - VNA
