Quang Binh (VNA) - Nearly 100,000 local and foreign visitors flocked to central province of Quang Binh to offer incense to late General Vo Nguyen Giap during nine days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
On February 10 (the third day of the first lunar month) only, about 15,000 people paid tribute to the Vietnamese legendary general at his tomb in Vung Chua-Dao Yen Island in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.
ꦡ General Vo Nguyen Giap, real name Vo Giap (alias Van), passed away in Hanoi on October 4, 2013 at the age of 103.
Giap, the first general and Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnamese People’s Army, was born on August 25, 1911 in An Xa village, Loc Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province. He directly led large campaigns during the Vietnamese wars against the French and the US.
His name is closely linked to the historic victory at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, which put an end to the French colonialism in the country. He was also instrumental in fighting the Americans who replaced French troops.

The central coastal province of Quang Binh held an event in Hanoi on April 23 to promote its tourism products and seek ways to tap its tourism potential.
Over 10,000 people across the country paid tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap at his grave in central Quang Binh province’s Quang Trach district on the 61 st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu historic victory, widely considered one of his greatest triumphs.
