Hanoi (VNA) – The VietnamSocial Security (VSS)’s entry to the ASEAN Social Security Association (ASSA)has brought about important and practical benefits, improving Vietnam’s socialand health insurance systems via acquiring experience and lessons on managementand policy enforcement.
VSS General Director Nguyen Thi Minh madethe statement on the sidelines of the 35th ASSA Board Meeting in thebeach city of Nha Trang, the central province of Khanh Hoa on September 18-19on the occasion of the association’s 20th founding anniversary andthe 20th anniversary of the VSS’s entry to ASSA.
Minh said over the past two decades, VSS hasjoined activities of the association, contributing to building the socio-culturalpillar of the ASEAN Community.
Minh said via ASSA meetings, the VSS hadfound opportunities to popularise its external activities and improve thesector’s stature and staff capacity.
According to her, ASEAN’s social securitysystem is entering a new development stage due to the fourth Industrial Revolutionand free labour migration.
In Vietnam, the workforce is forecast to growby 1.28 percent annually on average, or 723,000 people per year. The number ofworkers is predicted to rise from 55.54 million in 2016 to 62 million in 2025. Tomeet demand, the economy needs to generate roughly 650,000 jobs a year.
In the face of aging population, naturaldisasters, poverty, environmental pollution and impacts of the fourthindustrial revolution, social welfare programmes need to be refined andservices need to be made accessible to workers and residents, especially thevulnerable.
The VSS and ASSA members aim to adjustpolicies, rearrange management using modern technology and sign bilateral andmultilateral agreements to ensure workers’ rights.
They will also share experience and learnfrom experts, partners and international organisations while paying attentionto workforce training to adapt to a borderless economy.-VNA
