VUFO’s friendship insignias presented to IGE members

Hanoi (VNA) – VicePresident of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Bui Khac Sonpresented insignias “For Peace and Friendship Among Nations” to three membersof the Institute of Global Engagement (IGE) during a ceremony in Hanoi on June27.

The VUFO’s most noble distinctionswere granted to IGE founder and first Chairman Robert Seiple, former Chairmanand Honorary Chairman Chris Seiple, and Manager of IGE Programme in Vietnam VuThi Mai Hien.

Speaking at the event, Son hailedthe IGE as one of the close partners of the Vietnam-US Society (VUS) andthanked the IGE and individuals for contributing to the friendship between the Vietnameseand US people.

He expressed his belief that theIGE will further grow and ties between the IGE and the VUS, and otherVietnamese partners will see new progress.

Robert Seiple, for his part,attributed the thriving Vietnam – US ties to mutual understanding between thepeople of the two countries.

As a non-governmental organizationof the US, the IGE was founded in 2000 with a view to developing theenvironment for dealing with conflicts and promoting religious freedomworldwide. In 2005, the IGE began partnering with the VUS as a bridge linkingVietnamese and US organisations together.

With many years of working inVietnam, Robert Seiple has gained an insight into Vietnamese history andculture. He has cherished many social development projects with a hope ofbringing a better life to the Vietnamese people. His special sentiment toVietnam has been passed down to his son Chris Seiple, who later did the samemission in Vietnam.

Chris Seiple, on his position asIGE Chairman for many years, raised many initiatives on freedom of religionsand belief. He also helped strengthen mutual understanding between localauthorities, religion officers and religious followers in Vietnam.

Previously living and studying inthe US, Hien has worked for the IGE since 2007. With insightful understandingof Vietnamese society and people, she has made important contributions to connectingthe IGE with Vietnamese partners.-VNA
