WEF ASEAN 2018: PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomes Singaporean counterpart

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a meeting withSingaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on September 12 on the sidelines ofthe 2018 World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN).
The Vietnamese Government leader spoke highly of Lee’s attendance at the WEFASEAN, saying that it is vivid illustration for Singapore’s role andresponsibility as the chair of ASEAN 2018.
PM Phuc lauded Singapore’s achievements in economy and science-technology,hoping that Singapore will help Vietnam grasp opportunities brought by thefourth industrial revolution, apply digital technology in governance andurbanisation process, transfer technologies, and develop software park andstartup centres.
Lee, for his part, welcomed the participation of Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho ChiMinh City in the ASEAN Smart Cities Network to optimise their potential andadvantages to become leading urban area in the region.
The two Prime Ministers laid stress on the close relations between the twocountries, saying that regular meetings of leaders from both sides havecontributed to developing the strategic partnership in a stable, practical andeffective manner.
They agreed to continue support for the business communities of both sides toexpand investment and business in each other’s country, join hands to buildtransparent and stable policy frame, as well as timely remove obstacles forbusinesses, with the goal of raising two-way trade and investments.
Regarding regional and international issues, the two government leaders pledgedto maintain close cooperation and coordination within the ASEAN to concretise thespirit of resilience and innovation. Also, they will work to promote consensusand solidarity among ASEAN and the bloc’s central role, and uphold the bloc’sprinciples in key issues related to peace, security and stability in theregion, including the East Sea issue.
They were unanimous in accelerating trade liberalisation and regional economiclinkages, and coordinating with other countries to early complete thenegotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).-VNA
